Former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani has called for a full investigation into the administration of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, alleging financial impropriety and abuse of office during his tenure.
Sani’s comments came after El Rufai’s recent appearance on national television, where the former governor spoke on governance and national issues. Reacting, Sani described the remarks as the outburst of a politician frustrated by what he called a loss of relevance, rather than a defense of democracy.
He said El Rufai has the right to criticize the current administration but argued that the criticisms were driven more by personal grievances than public interest.
The exchange has also renewed attention on the unresolved disappearance of activist Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata. Sani dismissed claims linking the former governor directly to the case but urged security agencies to reopen investigations into the circumstances surrounding the activist’s disappearance.
Sani reaffirmed his support for the current administration and called on political actors to respect zoning and power rotation ahead of the 2027 elections. He said both the opposition and the ruling party should uphold the principle of rotation in selecting their candidates.
