It was a record-setting weekend for Nigerian women.

The country’s women’s 4 x 100 relay team won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with an African record of 42.10 seconds.

Tobi Amusan, who was a member of the 4 x 100 relay team went ahead to set a games record of 12.30 seconds in the 100 meters hurdles event.

With this, she now holds the Commonwealth Games record and the World record in the women’s 100 meters hurdles.

Long jumper, Ese Brume wrapped up Team Nigeria’s gold-winning streak in Birmingham with a games record of 7.00 meters, winning the gold medal in the process.

After a difficult start, she broke the games record of 6.97 with her 6.99-meter jump twice.

She went on to set a new record of 7.00 meters in her sixth and final jump of the finals on Sunday.

Birmingham wasn’t the only place where Nigerian women shone over the weekend. Footballer, Rasheedat Ajibade scored a hat trick in Atletico Madrid Femeni’s 6-1 defeat of Alhama CF in a pre-season match.
