The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, says claims online about Carter and Third Mainland Bridges are misleading.
He clarified that no reconstruction approval has been given; his FEC briefing only sought permission to engage global experts for technical assessments.
Both bridges have been under review since 2013.
Umahi highlighted the worsening structural defects caused by saltwater penetration, rusted piles, and illegal sand mining.
He said that experts suggested that the Carter Bridge may need replacement.
While inspecting the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, he praised Hitech for tackling ocean surge challenges, noting the 750 km of underground drainage and ongoing safety works.
The minister reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to public safety on all federal bridges.
