Team Brazil has made history by winning its first-ever E1 race at the Lagos GP, marking a breakthrough moment in the all-electric raceboat championship’s first-ever African event.

Competing on the Lagos Lagoon, the team — owned by Bolivian-American entrepreneur Marcelo Claure and piloted by Timmy Hansen, named PIF Pilot of the Race, and Leva Millere-Hagin, who proved most adept at weathering the storm — building on its pole position secured in Saturday’s qualifying session, surged to victory ahead of Blue Rising and Team Drogba, who finished second and third, respectively.

The win earned Team Brazil 38 points, their highest haul of the season, after a performance that captivated fans at the marina waterfront.

Blue Rising, powered by pilot pairing Sam Coleman and Grace Houghton, impressed with a strong second-place finish, earning 31 points and the Fastest Lap award.

Team Drogba, owned by football legend Didier Drogba, delivered their best result yet with 24 points to finish on the podium.

Team Brady — led by NFL superstar Tom Brady — finished fourth, gaining 19 points to extend their championship lead to 154 points overall, just three points ahead of Team Rafa (151 points).

Team Rafa, owned by tennis legend Rafael Nadal, endured a challenging weekend, finishing fifth in Lagos with 15 points.

The new standings heading into the final round in Miami show a fierce title battle:

  1. Team Brady – 154 pts

  2. Team Rafa – 151 pts

  3. Blue Rising – 145 pts

  4. Aoki Racing – 134 pts

  5. Westbrook Racing – 94 pts

  6. Team Drogba Global Africa – 90 pts

  7. Team Brazil – 89 pts

  8. Team Alula (LeBron James) – 84 pts

  9. Team Miami – 39 pts

The Lagos GP was the penultimate round of the 2025 E1 World Championship.

E1 founder and CEO Rodi Basso praised the Lagos event as “a defining moment for motorsport in Africa,” noting that the crowd energy and coastal setting made it one of the most exciting stops on the global calendar.

With just one round left in Miami on November 7 and 8, the title race remains wide open — with Team Brady, Team Rafa, and Blue Rising all still in contention for the first-ever E1 World Championship crown.

Sustainability and Big Plans for the Future

Organizers revealed plans to scale the series — expanding from nine to 12 teams and increasing the race calendar — while seeking €20 million in new investment and targeting a €500 million valuation by 2030.

But the E1 GP is more than sport and economics; it's also about sustainability. Basso told a news conference that the races are aimed at "protecting and celebrating the coastal areas."

"We know that there is an issue," he said.

"We know that there is a gap in the marine industry for the sustainability and the water mobility of the future.

"We come with a boat that is a symbol of responsibility through three factors: A, the emission. Our boats do not make any emissions because they are all fully electric.

"B, we use foils, and foils don't generate waves. You can see when the boats are running, there is a spray, but no waves. Waves are very critical to coastal area erosion.

"And then we reduce by 80 percent the noise compared to other boats."

Spectators flocked to the lagoonfront to witness foiling electric RaceBirds skim above the water.

The event was not only a sporting spectacle but a boost to tourism and Lagos’s profile on the global stage.
