President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Rivers South East senator Magnus Abe as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and sent his name along with 20 others to the Senate for confirmation.

In separate letters read on Monday, the president asked lawmakers to approve board nominees for the NUPRC and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

Abe is a two term senator and a former board member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. He currently chairs the National Agency of the Great Green Wall.

If confirmed, he will lead the NUPRC board alongside non executive commissioners including Paul Jezhi, a former Trade Union Congress chairman in Kaduna, and Sunday Babalola, a former deputy director at the defunct Department of Petroleum Resources.

Seven executive commissioners were also nominated for the NUPRC. They include Muhammed Lamido for finance, Edu Inyang for exploration and acreage, Justin Ezeala for economic regulation and strategic planning, and Henry Oki for development and production.

Others are Indabawa Alka for corporate services, Mahmood Tijani for health safety and environment, and Olayemi Adeboyejo as secretary and legal adviser.

For the NMDPRA, President Tinubu nominated energy lawyer Adegbite Adeniji as chairman. Other nominees include Kenneth Kobani and Asabe Ahmed as non executive members, as well as executive directors covering finance, hydrocarbon processing, gas infrastructure, corporate services, distribution systems, economic regulation and the board secretariat.

The list includes a mix of new nominees and some previously appointed by former presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan.
