Togo has expressed interest in increasing electricity imports from Nigeria to meet its growing domestic and industrial power demand.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
She spoke after a delegation from Togo's national electricity utility visited the company's headquarters for discussions on power supply.
According to Adighije, the visit by officials of the Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo highlighted the country’s desire to strengthen energy cooperation with Nigeria by expanding the volume of electricity it imports from the country.
She noted that the move reflects Nigeria’s strategic role in supporting regional electricity supply and strengthening energy integration within the West African sub-region.
Nigeria currently supplies electricity to several neighbouring countries through regional power arrangements, including Benin, Niger and Togo, as part of efforts to promote energy trade and stability across the region.
The discussions between both parties are expected to deepen bilateral cooperation in the power sector and help address electricity shortages in Togo while expanding Nigeria’s footprint in the regional energy market.
