Nigerian military forces have killed a senior Boko Haram leader identified as the group’s second-in-command in the Sambisa Forest, along with 10 other fighters, the Armed Forces announced on Sunday.

According to a statement from the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, troops engaged militants during a night-time offensive in the Komala area of Konduga Local Government Area late Saturday.

The military said the operation resulted in the neutralisation of a key figure known as Abu Khalid, one of Boko Haram’s top commanders and 10 of his fighters.

The task force confirmed that multiple weapons and supplies were recovered from the scene, including rifles and logistical items.

Troops reportedly sustained no casualties during the mission, an indication of a well-executed engagement.

This development comes just one day after the military announced the killing of another high-value Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, known as Julaibib, in a separate encounter within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.

Military authorities described the latest success as a major operational achievement in the ongoing fight against insurgent groups that have plagued northeastern Nigeria for more than a decade.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai continue clearance operations in known insurgent hideouts across Borno and neighbouring states.
