Trump Says No Tolls in Strait of Hormuz Under Ceasefire Arrangement

U.S. President Donald Trump says there will be “no tolls” in the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days during a ceasefire period, and that no tolls will apply after the period expires unless imposed by the United States.

In a post on his social media platform, Trump said any future charges would only be imposed “by and for the United States of America,” if a broader deal is not completed.

He described the arrangement as part of what he called a ceasefire-related framework and referenced the United States as a “guardian angel” for countries in the Middle East.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.

Trump’s statement comes amid ongoing diplomatic activity involving the United States, Iran and other regional actors following recent tensions and ceasefire discussions in the Middle East.
