Twenty-seven people have been killed in two separate mass shootings in South Africa, hours apart, with at least 26 others injured.
Seventeen people, including 13 men and four women, were killed after eight gunmen opened fire on customers at a bar near Johannesburg on Saturday evening. Fifteen others were injured.
Police said the attackers also torched two vehicles before fleeing the scene.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni said people from Ethiopia and Lesotho were among those caught in the attack, although most of the victims were South African.
Police suspect robbery may have been the motive after personal belongings were taken, but they have not ruled out a turf war involving illegal mining groups.
In a separate attack early Sunday, 10 people were killed outside an entertainment venue in a township near Cape Town, while 11 others were injured. Five victims died at the scene and five others died in hospital.
The attacks come days after 11 people were killed when gunmen stormed a house in the KwaMakhutha township in Durban.
South Africa has long struggled with gun violence, with gang conflicts, drug trafficking and illegal mining among issues linked to recent mass shootings.
