Minister of Works Dave Umahi says the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway is aimed at strengthening regional integration and improving national connectivity.
Speaking during an inspection of the Ondo section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Ilaje Local Government Area, Umahi said the projects would transform Nigeria's infrastructure and support economic development across the country.
The minister said many road projects inherited from previous administrations had deteriorated, adding that the Tinubu administration is committed to building durable roads that will stand the test of time.
Umahi also said President Bola Tinubu directed the ministry to adopt prudent engineering solutions for the coastal highway, explaining that redesigning parts of the project after extensive soil investigations would reduce costs while ensuring long-term durability.
He added that the government remains committed to completing the major highway projects, describing them as critical to improving connectivity and driving national development.
