Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State on Monday presented a ₦1.43 trillion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, marking a 78 percent increase over the ₦807 billion budget for 2025.

Tagged the “Budget of Economic Breakthrough,” the proposal allocates 83.4 percent to capital expenditure and 16.6 percent to recurrent spending.

Presenting the budget, Uzodimma said recurrent expenditure was estimated at about ₦238.5 billion, covering personnel costs, overheads, and subventions, while capital expenditure was projected at slightly above ₦1 trillion.

According to the governor, the budget is anchored on expectations of improved federal allocation and increased internally generated revenue (IGR), as well as the administration’s resolve to end what he described as a “generator-based power economy” and deliver world-class infrastructure to stimulate economic growth.

Sectoral allocations outlined in the proposal include ₦20.506 billion for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and ₦698.163 billion for the Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Development is to receive ₦87.727 billion, while ₦6.471 billion is earmarked for the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition.

Other key allocations include ₦190.451 billion for the Ministry of Power and Electrification, ₦60.623 billion for the Ministry of Education, and ₦15.106 billion for the Ministry of Rural Development.
