Piles of refuse have taken over the Mile 12 under bridge in Lagos, stretching through Oremerin Road leading to Agiliti, leaving residents frustrated over the growing heaps of waste.

Commuters and residents say the sight has become unbearable, with many complaining that despite properly packing their waste, it remains uncollected for days.

Similar scenes have been reported across parts of Lagos, from Lekki to Ikorodu, where overflowing bins line major roads and medians — raising fears of a possible cholera outbreak.

Reacting to the complaints, the Head of Public Affairs at the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, urged residents to stop dumping refuse indiscriminately and instead report cases of uncollected waste directly to the agency.

Kadiri advised residents to call LAWMA’s toll-free line 070-8060-1020, or send an email to info@lawma.gov.ng, providing details of their location for prompt response.

She warned that anyone caught dumping refuse on roads or open spaces would be treated as defacing the environment and would face sanctions under state laws.

While acknowledging that some Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators are currently facing operational challenges, Kadiri assured that efforts are ongoing to address the issues and improve waste collection across the state.
