DSS Denies Atiku’s Claim, Says Two Operatives Injured in Sokoto

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that it was recruiting protesters to cause unrest in Sokoto State and disrupt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign rally.

The Service said two of its operatives were injured while protecting the party’s governorship candidate, Mannir Daniya, during a mob attack in Sokoto on Oct. 31.

In a statement posted on its official X account Wednesday, the DSS said its operatives evacuated Daniya safely but sustained injuries during the incident and remained hospitalised.

It added that the candidate later contacted the state director of the DSS command to express appreciation and request additional security reinforcement.

Describing Atiku’s allegation as inconsistent with its efforts to protect politicians across party lines, the Service said its director-general had ordered an investigation.

The DSS also cited its arrest of Monday Udeme Steven in Rivers State on March 2, 2026, over threats to attack Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

It said Udeme was prosecuted at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt and is serving a two-year prison sentence.

The Service also addressed a separate allegation by African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore that its operatives were involved in an attack on him in Ekiti State.

It said a preliminary police report attributed the incident to an altercation and confirmed the arrest of 11 suspects. The DSS added that it was awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to accountability under its current leadership.
