PDP Leadership Dispute: Wabara-Led Faction to Appeal Court of Appeal Ruling at Supreme Court

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by its Interim National Working Committee chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, says it will challenge a Court of Appeal judgment dismissing its bid to secure recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The faction announced its decision in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following a judgment delivered on Wednesday by a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal.

The appeal, filed by the Chairman and members of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and some founding members, sought to overturn a Federal High Court judgment that refused to direct INEC to recognise the interim National Working Committee led by Turaki.

The appeal, with suit number CA/ABJ/CV/1221/2026, was filed against INEC and six other respondents.

The Court of Appeal panel, comprising Justices Ugochukwu Anthony Ogakwu, Laja Balogun and Ruqayyat Oremei Ayoola, who read the judgment, upheld the decision of the Federal High Court and dismissed the appeal.

Reacting to the ruling, the faction said it respected the court's decision but remained determined to pursue the matter at the Supreme Court.

It said its lawyers had been instructed to immediately file an appeal, expressing confidence that the apex court would eventually deliver justice.

The faction also argued that the PDP must remain a strong opposition party capable of providing an alternative to the ruling party, rather than becoming an appendage of the government.

It urged its members to remain united and resolute as the legal battle continues, describing the dispute as important to the survival of multiparty democracy in Nigeria.
