Tech expert and change leader, Adaobi Chuma-Okeke, has opened up about the hurdles faced by students living with disabilities, particularly in university settings.

Sharing her experience on Nigeria Info's Sunny Side as the world marked International Day of Education, she painted a heart-wrenching picture of the challenges that almost became a roadblock to her education, leaving her "miserable" and struggling to attend lectures.

“I would cry sometimes, and it didn’t seem like there was going to be a headway,” she confessed, highlighting the emotional toll of battling inaccessible classrooms and the lack of proper support.

She detailed her repeated attempts to attend lectures, even needing a classmate's help to readjust the classroom setting after a fall.

“There was a very fateful day where I fell off the wheelchair because I was being lifted in the air,” she said, underscoring the hazards of navigating a system ill-equipped for disability inclusion.

Despite the difficulties, Chuma-Okeke emphasized the importance of education, highlighting its transformative power to broaden one's mind, as she refused to let her school fees go to waste.
