The National President, of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Ambali Olatunji says NULGE’s call for a salary increase is due to unsavory economic reality in the country.

Speaking as a guest on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, Olatunji gave a breakdown of local government workers' daily expenditure on transportation which led to the association’s request for a three hundred percent salary increase.

Asked about the government’s ability to afford a three hundred percent upward salary review with the current economic situation of the nation, Olatuji argues that it is not about the government’s ability to pay but their willingness to pay.

The National President of NULGE also called out Zamfara, Borno, and Kebbi states for failing to implement the new minimum wage in their states.
He accused the state governors of diverting local government allocations while workers are left uncatered for.

Olatunji further expressed optimism that President Tinubu’s administration will address the concerns regarding the welfare of workers in the country.
