Radio analyst and sports journalist Carl Orakwue has said it is completely wrong for employees to work on their side businesses during office hours. He stressed that using work time for personal business is unprofessional.

Carl, speaking to Denise Dennis on The Sunnyside, explained that placing items being sold on desks spoils the aesthetics of the workplace. He added that even if employees feel underpaid, it is still not acceptable to do business while at work. According to him, the staff signed a contract and agreed to the terms; they could have refused the job if they were unhappy instead of breaking the rules.

Carl also gave examples from other countries, where if someone calls a friend or family member while on duty, the person may not pick up immediately, but will call back later, explaining they were working. He said this shows respect for work hours and responsibilities.

Finally, He stressed that in a corporate organisation, employees are expected to give full attention and productivity during work hours, adding that the time spent at work belongs to the organisation, and using it for personal gain is unacceptable.
