Spokesperson, Atiku campaign council, Leloonu Nwibubasa says claims of a crisis within the People’s Democratic Party, PDP is untrue.

27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly under the PDP had defected to the All-Progressives Congress, APC citing division within the PDP as the reason for exiting the party.

Speaking on Nigeria Info FM Morning Crossfire, Nwibubasa criticised the lawmakers’ reason for defecting explaining that though division within a party is the sole basis for a lawmaker to cross-carpet to another party, the claimed division is the “height of criminal dishonesty”.

Dr. Nwibubasa also addressed speculations about Rivers State gradually transitioning into an APC-led state due to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and loyalists maintaining a close relationship with the APC. He hinted at potential legal actions against these party members.

Speaking further, Nwibubasa clarified that the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, holds the position of the leader of the party in the state based on the provisions of the party's constitution. This clarification comes amid varying opinions regarding the leadership of the PDP in the state, with factions supporting either the FCT minister or the state governor.
