President General of Ogoni Youth Federation, Legborsi Yamaabana has confirmed the commencement of construction work on the Eleme-Onne Road in the Ogoni axis of Rivers State.

The federal government had projected the completion of the road construction ahead of its December deadline for the resumption of refining operations at the Port Harcourt refinery. This follows earlier agitations over the deplorable state of the Eleme-Onne Road and other routes leading to the Port Harcourt refinery.

Yamaabana who explained the proposed construction plan for the road on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, said the completion of the project ahead of the December deadline is not feasible.

“…As someone who is in the industry, I can tell you categorically that it won’t work’’. He asserts.

He, however, noted that the Ogoni people are mainly concerned with the completion of the road regardless of the deadline, stressing the importance of the Eleme-Onne road to the people and the nation at large.

Yamaabana also disclosed that a youth monitoring committee, consisting of Ogoni professionals would be set up in order to monitor the progress and quality of work until completion.
