Former spokesperson of the Rivers Civil Society Organisation (RIVSCO), Solomon Lenu, has criticised the absence of Rivers State representatives at a two-day public hearing on constitutional amendment held in Akwa Ibom.

The hearing, focused on reviewing the 1999 Constitution for the South-South Zone, was declared open on Friday in Ikot Ekpene by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, Mr Lenu stated that while other ethnic groups and states had representatives and stakeholders present, Rivers State was completely unrepresented.

“Rivers State had no political leader, no monarch, nobody,” he said.

He added that neighbouring Bayelsa State had a delegation led by Senator Seriake Dickson, which advocated for the creation of more local government areas.

Mr Lenu described the experience as “sad”, warning that Rivers State risked losing political relevance at the national level.
