Why FG Has No Justification To Remove Fuel Subsidy - Caller

Ebenezer, a caller, says the failure of the Nigerian government to build refineries is one reason the Federal Government should not be thinking about removing fuel subsidy.

The caller expressed this opinion to Wemimo Adewuni on Friday after the fuel subsidy removal conversation resurfaced.

He said that a country where its citizens largely use generators to generate power should not be thinking about making lives more difficult by removing subsidy.

Ebenezer added that if the government stops subsidizing fuel, the protest that rocked the last subsidy removal in 2012 will occur again.

The National Economic Council, NEC, said yesterday that its decision on the removal of the subsidy on petroleum would be made in June when provision for its payment in the 2022 budget expires.

This comes after General Abdulsalami Abubakar, retd, advised the Federal Government not to withdraw fuel subsidy, saying any increase in the pump price of petrol would push more Nigerians into poverty.
