The Deputy National Secretary of the Labour Party, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu says the internal disagreements plaguing the national leadership of the party is a sponsored attempt by opposition parties to hijack the Labour Party.

This follows a clash between a faction of the party led by the acting National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa, and another loyal to the embattled National Chairman of the party, Comrade Julius Abure over control of its national secretariat in Abuja, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

In an interview on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, Ahanotu said Apapa’s emergence as chairman is illegal. He said no notice was given to the National Working Committee, NWC of the party to convene for an emergency meeting prior to the appointment of the Deputy National Chairman, South, Lamidi Apapa as Acting National Chairman.

An earlier court order had restrained Comrade Julius Abure from parading himself as National Chairman of the party pending the determination of a suit over alleged forgery of party documents.

Ahanotu accused the Apapa-led faction of the party of being used as a tool for the hijacking of the party’s leadership by the opposition parties.

The Deputy National Secretary of the Labour Party maintained that Comrade Julius Abure is still the national chairman of the party.
