NANS chairman in Rivers reacts to court order directing ASUU to call off strike

The Rivers State Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Jokiel Gideon, has posited that the federal government’s decision to drag the Academic Staff Union of Universities to court smacks of incompetence.

In an interview with Ifiemi Andrew on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, the NANS chapter chairman said the federal government resorted to the court because it “lacks the ability to manage the crisis.”

Mr Gideon added that although the court order directing lecturers to call off their strike is “result-oriented”, it would “escalate” the grievances of the lecturers whose demands are yet to be met.

“…asking these persons to go back to classrooms, we also will suffer it because they are coming back with these grievances that have not been resolved…it’s like escalating the issue,” he stressed.
