A caller on the Morning Crossfire says it is the responsibility of the government to build houses and give them out for rent. This follows concerns by the House of Representatives over arbitrary rent increases in Nigeria.
The lawmakers called for no more than a 20 per cent increase in the existing rent, irrespective of infrastructure improvements or other factors.
Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, this caller shared his thoughts on the struggles between landlords and tenants, stating that the government's failure to step in makes life tougher for both sides. He argued that not everyone can afford to pay monthly rent due to certain occupations that delay the payment of salaries.
He added that landlords who depend on rent as a source of income might be pressured to increase rent because of the constant inflation in the country. He urged the government to step in to minimise the pressure on both sides.
