The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Governorship candidate in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has confirmed the party is in motion to challenge the outcome of the March 18, governorship election in the state, however, Senator Abe says the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is yet to grant him access to the documents needed to file his case at the election petition tribunal.

Senator Abe who disclosed this on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire also condemned the ongoing political unrest in the state, following the outcome of the gubernatorial election.

The SDP governorship candidate alleged that there is a deliberate attempt to prevent aggrieved parties from seeking redress in court. He described the clash between the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC on Monday in Port Harcourt as “uncalled for”.

Speaking further, Senator Abe faulted the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for saying that he was rejected by his people in Gokana Local Government Area. The SDP governorship candidate stressed that the election results would have proven the true choice of the people if only the people were allowed to cast their votes freely.

“I am very happy that I did not win the election in the circumstances in which some people claim to have won…” He added, speaking about the need to bequeath a legacy of a free and fair democratic process in Rivers State.

Senator Abe also dismissed the governor’s claim that he lost the 2023 governorship election because the SDP is still a young political party.
