Residents of Rivers State have expressed mixed reactions ahead of the expected return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly, following a six-month suspension under emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu.

The suspension was announced after a political crisis in the state, which included the alleged burning of the State Assembly Complex.

Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, one caller said she would support the governor's resignation immediately after his return, stating that his authority had been undermined. She questioned the legitimacy of recent appointments made in his absence and raised concerns about his ability to work with officials he did not personally choose.

She also raised concerns about the launch of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), suggesting it could be a tool for monitoring the governor as he resumes office.

Another caller said commissioners and appointees suspended alongside the governor should be reinstated, arguing that this would support peace in the state.

A third caller said the return of the governor and lawmakers would benefit the people of Rivers State and called for unity and cooperation between all branches of government.
