The All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State has dismissed reports that its governorship candidate, Tonye Cole was on his way to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Rivers State to inspect election materials.

Supporters of the APC and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state were engaged in a brawl on Monday at the GRA junction on Aba Road in Port Harcourt after PDP supporters blocked the roads leading to the INEC office demanding a joint inspection of election materials.

In an interview on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, the Spokesperson of the Rivers APC Governorship Campaign Council, Sogbeye Eli clarified that Mr Cole was on his way to obtain a certified true copy of the election documents required to file its case in court challenging the March 18, governorship election result.

Sogbeye accused the PDP of peddling the ‘inspection’ narrative in order to prevent the APC from filing its petition before the 21 days window stipulated by the law for political parties to challenge the outcome of an election.

The spokesperson of the Rivers APC Governorship campaign council also debunked reports that security personnel attached to Mr Cole shot a man in the leg during the clash.

“Somebody died who killed the person?...we are not kids here, if somebody died PDP should tell us” he stressed.
