The Independent National Electoral Commission has called on political parties to conduct their campaigns and rallies “with a certain level of civility” as campaigns for the 2023 general elections officially start on Wednesday, September 28.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, while stating the commission’s guidelines for the campaign season, told Ifiemi Andrew on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire that the 2022 Electoral Act prohibits the use of direct or indirect abusive language or innuendoes, slander, or inciteful language.
He also said the Act states that religious centres, police stations and public offices cannot be used for campaigns, adding that the law also prohibits the use of masquerades for campaigns.
