ADC Chairman’s Daughter Backs Tinubu, Raising Questions Over Opposition Unity

A fresh political twist has emerged within Nigeria’s opposition ranks as Hon. Blessing Onuh, daughter of African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman Senator David Mark, openly backed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Onuh, a serving member of the House of Representatives, has taken up a leading role in a pro-Tinubu group, the Take Action Campaign Organisation (TACO).

Her appointment as National Woman Leader was announced in Abuja by the group’s Director-General, Tony Nwulu.

Accepting the role, Onuh pledged loyalty to the President’s second-term ambition, saying, “I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure President Tinubu’s victory.”

She added that the organisation aims at “showcasing the various achievements” of the administration.

Her move is politically significant, coming at a time when her father, David Mark, is leading the ADC and coordinating a broad opposition coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

The party’s coalition already includes key figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others seeking to challenge the APC.

The development highlights possible growing cracks within opposition ranks.

It follows a similar episode earlier this year when Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, broke ranks and joined the APC, also backing Tinubu’s re-election.

Onuh’s alignment may not signal a formal party shift, but it underscores internal pressures and competing loyalties within Nigeria’s political elite.

Observers warn that if such trends continue, they could weaken the ADC’s credibility and its broader mission to present a cohesive alternative to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
