The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has rejected the newly released 2027 general election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying it raises concerns about fairness and equal opportunity.

In a press statement signed by its National Chairman, Engr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani, the party said it “rejects in the strongest terms” the timetable in its current form.

The ADP warned that it “raises serious red flags about fairness, inclusiveness, and equal political opportunity.”

The party argued that “democracy is not a race designed for only the well-positioned to win.”

It said any electoral calendar that “compresses the time available for party membership validation, primaries, and candidate emergence risks tilting the playing field against opposition parties and emerging political platforms.”

According to the ADP, credible elections are built long before voting day.

“When the preparatory window is unreasonably tight, the integrity of the entire process comes into question,” the statement said.

The party listed several concerns, including that the timetable places “undue pressure on nationwide party structures” and could create “systemic disadvantages for smaller and reform-minded parties.”

It also warned that the schedule may “fuel public distrust and political tension as the country approaches 2027.”

As a result, the ADP demanded “an immediate stakeholder review and expansion of critical timelines” and called on Nigerians and civil society groups to insist on “a level playing field for all parties.”

“This is not about one party,” the statement said. “This is about protecting the credibility of Nigeria’s democracy.”

INEC has not yet responded publicly to the ADP’s concerns.
