The All Progressives Congress has hit back at African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi over his claim that President Bola Tinubu’s policies made it difficult for him to afford medication for his late mother.

Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and transportation minister, made the claim during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.

“Because policies are killing people.

"I’ve lost my mother,” Amaechi said.

He also said, “Before Tinubu, my mother was healthy.

"Suddenly, by the time Tinubu came, it was difficult to buy drugs for my mother.”

Amaechi’s mother, Ezinne Amaechi, died on 16th July at age 89.

He argued that rising drug prices and economic hardship under Tinubu contributed to the difficulty his family faced in caring for her.

Responding Sunday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka questioned Amaechi’s ability to support himself outside public office.

The party said Amaechi had spent decades in government as a state assembly speaker, governor and minister but had become financially constrained only three years after leaving office.

“For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office,” the APC said.

It added that he “must be a loafer, aimless and irresponsible” if he could not earn a living outside public office.

The APC also questioned his 2027 ambition, saying his comments raised questions about his suitability to become vice president.

“The presidency is not a soup kitchen, and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” Morka said.
