The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide Yunusa Tanko says the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was attacked in Benin City om Tuesday 24th February 2026 following a political event.

In a statement, Yunusa Tanko said he and other ADC leaders travelled from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of party elder Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, where they were attacked by armed individuals who fired shots at the gate.

“They shot at the gate and destroyed several vehicles,” Tanko said, adding that their lives were at risk.

He described the incident as an attempted assassination and said, “democracy is in danger.”

The Obidient Movement had been at the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the ADC when the attack occurred.

Tanko accused the attackers of trying to prevent ADC members from participating in politics freely, but he did not name any group or suspect behind the violence.

More details later.
