A magistrate court in Sagamu, Ogun State has postponed the trial of the driver involved in the deadly car crash that injured British boxer Anthony Joshua and killed two of his close associates.

The next hearing is now set for 17th March 2026.

The driver, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, appeared before the Ogun Magistrate Court 1 on Wednesday.

He faces several charges, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun granted the request to adjourn the case so that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) can properly prepare for the hearing.

Prosecutors told the court they need more time to gather evidence and witnesses.

The charges relate to a fatal accident on 29th December 2025 on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, when a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and members of his team collided with a stationary truck.

Joshua, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, was injured but survived.

Two of his close teammates — Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach — died in the crash.

Joshua was later discharged from the hospital and returned to the United Kingdom after the tragic accident.

His friends’ bodies were flown back for funeral services.

The case was previously adjourned earlier this year, and the latest postponement gives the prosecution more time to prepare before the next court date in March.
