Outgoing Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, says he is proud of the economic reforms carried out under President Bola Tinubu, as he prepares to leave office following a cabinet reshuffle.

In a statement, Edun thanked Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in government as both challenging and rewarding.

“I wish to thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve our country,” he said.

He said the administration took office during difficult economic conditions but worked to stabilise the system.

“Mr President assumed office with our country facing difficult economic circumstances,” Edun said.

According to him, key reforms helped improve growth and reduce inflation.

He stated that “growth improved from a rate of 2% to over 4%, and inflation fell from 35% to 15%.”

Edun added that these results were driven by coordinated government action and efforts to rebuild confidence.

“We worked collectively across government to advance critical reforms that stabilised the macroeconomic environment and strengthened fiscal sustainability,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to colleagues and partners across different sectors.

“I am proud of what we achieved alongside colleagues in the Federal Executive Council, state governors, and our partners in the public and private sectors,” Edun said.

Despite the progress, the former minister acknowledged that more work remains.

“While much remains to be done, the direction is clear and the foundations are firmly in place,” he said.

Edun said he remains optimistic about Nigeria’s economic future and pledged continued support for the government’s reform agenda, even outside office.
