The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has directed that an apology be conveyed to Professor Eyo Ekpe and members of the Nigerian Medical Association following the May 12 incident involving EFCC personnel and staff of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

According to the Commission, the apology followed a preliminary report on the incident, with Olukoyede expressing regret over the discomfort caused to hospital staff and members of the public.

The EFCC chairman also reiterated that a full investigation is ongoing and assured that any officer found to have acted outside the Commission’s professional code of conduct would face internal disciplinary action.

Olukoyede further stated that the incident would not affect the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate, while calling on the Nigerian Medical Association and other professional groups to continue supporting the EFCC in tackling economic and financial crimes.
