The Federal Government has announced plans to repair damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a move expected to affect traffic for about two weeks.
In a statement on Saturday, the Federal Ministry of Works said the maintenance work will take place on Kara Bridge along the outbound Lagos section between chainage 5+350 and 6+115.
The ministry said the repair will take place from 10th to 24th March 10, 2026.
According to the statement, the project is being carried out “under the directive of the Honourable Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi,” and will involve the replacement of damaged expansion joints on the bridge.
Officials warned that there will be a partial road closure during the maintenance work.
“To facilitate this essential maintenance work, there will be a partial closure resulting in a narrowed road width, which will affect traffic travelling outward Lagos at the Kara Bridge section,” the ministry said.
Motorists have been advised to consider alternative routes to avoid heavy traffic during the repair period.
The ministry said drivers travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan may pass through Shimawa or Mosinmi.
Those coming from Lagos Island can use the Epe corridor through Ijebu Ode to reach Sagamu, Ibadan and Mowe.
Motorists were also reminded that “a shorter route may not necessarily be the fastest,” and were urged to plan their journeys early and obey traffic officials.
The ministry said it regrets any inconvenience the repairs may cause and thanked the public for their patience.
Officials added that the work is necessary to ensure the “safety, durability and stability of the nation’s road infrastructure.”
