The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Saturday rejected claims that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) had been postponed, calling the notice circulating online fake and malicious.
In a statement released to the press on 4th of April 2026, the board said the document, which appeared to announce a delay to the national university entrance exam, did not come from JAMB.
It warned students, parents and others to ignore the notice and rely only on official communications.
“All activities for the 2026 UTME will continue as scheduled,” the board said.
JAMB reminded candidates that the main examination is set to start Thursday, 16th April 2026, and end Saturday, 25th April 2026.
The clarification follows the recent mock UTME on 28th of March 2026, which faced technical difficulties at some computer‑based test centres.
JAMB said more than 20 centres were delisted for failing to meet standards.
JAMB has also been taking steps to protect the credibility of the exam.
It has warned candidates that anyone involved with fraud, including groups claiming they can inflate scores, could have results cancelled or face other penalties.
More than 1.5 million candidates registered for this year’s UTME, and the board insists registration closed on 26th February 2026 as planned.
Officials say the board is committed to conducting a credible exam and caution the public to verify information only from JAMB’s official channels.
