The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has begun an investigation into the cause of the fire that broke out at the Bono Energy Terminal in the Apapa tank farm area, assuring residents that the situation has been brought under control.

The fire erupted on Friday at one of the petroleum storage facilities in the busy industrial zone, prompting an emergency response from firefighters and other safety agencies.

Officials said the blaze was contained before it could spread to nearby fuel tanks, preventing what could have been a much larger disaster.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said a full investigation had started to determine the cause of the incident.

"We have commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire," Adeseye said.

She added that firefighters acted quickly to stop the flames from spreading across the terminal.

"Our firefighters successfully contained the fire and prevented it from escalating to adjoining facilities," she said.

"The operation also ensured that lives, property and critical infrastructure were protected."

According to the agency, emergency responders remained at the scene after the fire was extinguished to carry out cooling operations and monitor the area for possible re-ignition.

Officials also confirmed that there were no reported fatalities, while the extent of injuries, if any, was still being assessed.

The Apapa tank farm district is home to several petroleum storage depots and remains one of Nigeria's busiest oil and gas logistics hubs.

Fires in the area often raise concerns because of the concentration of highly flammable products and nearby residential and commercial communities.

The Fire and Rescue Service urged operators and stakeholders to continue observing strict safety procedures while the investigation continues.

Authorities said the findings of the probe will help determine the cause of the inferno and guide measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
