The Kaduna Region of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received four new power transformers for two transmission substations in Kaduna State as part of efforts to improve electricity supply in Nigeria’s North-West region.
According to TCN, two 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformers were delivered to the Jaja Transmission Substation in Kudan Local Government Area, while two 66MVA 132/33kV power transformers were delivered to the Jaji Substation in Igabi Local Government Area on Monday.
TCN said the two substation projects were “strategically designed to enhance power supply reliability and expand transmission capacity across the North-West region.”
The projects are being funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Officials said work on the projects has reached an advanced stage, raising hopes among the company and communities that depend on the facilities for electricity.
When completed, the Jaja 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation will be connected to the 330kV Kano Transmission Line, which TCN described as “a critical connection that will significantly reinforce transmission capacity in the region.”
The company added that the new substations are expected to improve the power network and help reduce electricity problems in several states.
TCN explained that the projects will “help to reduce power outages, improve voltage stability, and ensure a more reliable bulk electricity supply” to distribution centres.
Electricity distributed from the substations will serve parts of Kano State and nearby areas, where distribution companies will deliver power to homes, businesses and public institutions.
Nigeria has continued to invest in power transmission infrastructure in recent years as the government tries to improve electricity supply across the country.
