The Nigerian federal government has fulfilled its pledge of housing and land allocations to Super Eagles players following their runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that players have received certificates for plots of land and housing units promised by President Bola Tinubu. Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe said the documents were presented to the players at their camp in Fes, Morocco.

Nigeria finished second at the tournament, played in 2024, after losing 2–1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final. On their return, President Tinubu hosted the team at the Presidential Villa, conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each player, and approved a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory and a housing unit for every squad member.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau said the fulfilment of the pledges showed the government’s commitment to Nigerian sports.

“The president made these promises, and they are being honoured. It shows respect for the players and seriousness about sports development,” Gusau said.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, said the government resolved to deliver all promises before the team’s next AFCON campaign, describing the move as part of the Renewed Hope agenda.

The Super Eagles are currently in Morocco for the tournament and will open their Group C campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, before facing Tunisia and Uganda as they chase a fourth continental title.
