One woman has died, and four others have been seriously injured in a road crash on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday, emergency officials said.

The accident involved two fully loaded commercial Toyota Sienna cars that collided head-on near Iyana-Iworo in the early hours of the day, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

The agency' Head of Public Affairs, Olawale Afolabi, confirmed the incident, saying the injured victims were taken to a trauma centre for treatment.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that reckless driving by another Toyota Sienna triggered the crash, resulting in a head-on collision,” Afolabi said.

He added that emergency responders were alerted early in the morning, noting that “LASEMA’s Tiger Squad from the C3 Command was activated at about 7:26 a.m.” and arrived shortly after to begin rescue operations.

Officials said personnel from LASEMA worked with the police and traffic authorities to secure the area, manage traffic and clear the wreckage from the busy bridge.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, described the crash as preventable and warned motorists against speeding, dangerous overtaking, and poor lane discipline.
