A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to tackle worsening insecurity, saying repeated attacks on schools and communities show that Nigerians are no longer safe.

The criticism came from the PDP faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, following renewed abductions linked to schools in parts of northern Nigeria.

Ememobong said the Tinubu administration must “confront insecurity head-on or accept responsibility for its failure,” arguing that attacks on schools had become a direct threat to Nigeria’s future.

The opposition faction said recent kidnappings, including the abduction of students in Kebbi and Niger states, had left families in “sorrows, tears, blood, fear and deep anguish,” while government responses remained inadequate.

According to the Turaki-led group, shutting schools because of insecurity would amount to “surrendering to terrorists,” since armed groups deliberately target education to keep children out of classrooms.

The faction also accused the Federal Government of focusing more on political battles than on protecting lives.

“We admonish the President to devote even half the energy, tact and strategy his administration invests in constricting the political space for the opposition towards building a security architecture capable of protecting lives and communities,” the statement said.

The APC-led Federal Government has repeatedly defended its security efforts, insisting troops and security agencies are intensifying operations against bandits and kidnappers across affected states.
