President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a strong endorsement of the governor’s first-term performance.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president praised the people of Ekiti for what he called their peaceful participation in the election.

Tinubu commended residents for their “peaceful and orderly conduct” and for “reposing their trust in Governor Oyebanji.”

The president also praised security agencies for maintaining peace during the poll and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on the conduct of the election.

“He charges the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue to invest in conducting a peaceful, free, fair and credible election as we approach the Osun governorship election in August and the general election next year,” the statement said.

According to the presidency, Oyebanji’s victory is historic because he has become “the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back.”

Tinubu said the governor’s first term was marked by “significant strides in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development” under the BAO agenda.

“The renewed mandate is therefore a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance,” the president said.

He urged the governor to “remain magnanimous in victory and to carry all Ekiti people along” as he begins a second term.

Tinubu also called on opposition candidates to support the governor, saying “it is now time to rally round Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance.”

The president reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with the state to deliver more development projects and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda.
