Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday led 10 governors and top party leaders to welcome Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The event took place at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, where thousands of supporters gathered for the reception.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idrris, the vice president arrived through the newly built Gusau International Airport.

Governors present included Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), and Hope Uzodinma (Imo).

Other dignitaries included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, House Speaker Tajuddeen Abbas, and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda.

Speaking at the event, Shettima said the country is making progress on security.

“We pray for more unity and progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because… he is working very hard to ensure the safety of lives and property,” he said.

He added that security challenges in Zamfara and other states would be addressed, noting that Lawal’s move to the APC would help.

Uzodinma, chairman of the APC Governors Forum, described the move as positive. “It is a win-win situation for Zamfara. APC is a moving train,” he said.

In his remarks, Lawal promised fairness and hard work for the people.

Former governors, including Abdulaziz Yari, Bello Matawalle, and Mahmuda Shinkafi, also attended and pledged their support.
