Nigeria’s Super Falcons will open a training camp on 20th February as they step up preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, local football officials said Wednesday.
The Falcons are defending champions and have been drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt and Malawi for the tournament, which the Confederation of African Football lists as running 17th March to 3rd April, 2026.
The WAFCON also serves as part of Africa’s qualifying path for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Coach Justine Madugu and his technical team will use the camp to select the final squad and arrange training drills, fitness work and friendly matches where possible.
The Nigeria Football Federation has been urged to organise warm-up games and support the team’s logistics to ensure players are ready for the tournament.
Some former players and observers have criticised the lack of early friendlies for the Falcons, saying more matches are needed for sharpness and team cohesion.
Supporters say a well-managed camp — with good food, medical care and match practice — is vital if Nigeria is to defend its title.
The team is expected to hold parts of its final preparation in Nigeria before travelling to host venues for pre-tournament fixtures.
Officials said they will name the provisional squad in the coming days and keep the public informed through the Nigeria Football Federation’s official channels.
