The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unanimously endorsed FIFA’s decision to review the controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal and reaffirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The CAF Executive Committee made the position public Thursday after endorsing a joint update issued by Infantino and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström on the proposal.
FIFA said mistakes were made in the process of setting up the FIFA Forward Enterprise, acknowledging that FIFA Council members and member associations felt excluded.
It said the proposal, which required approval from FIFA’s member associations and council, was now “off the table.”
“We sincerely apologise for these errors and commit to them not happening again,” FIFA said in the joint update.
It added that a review would be conducted, with a report to be presented to the FIFA Council at its next scheduled meeting.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe welcomed the statement and stressed the importance of proper governance.
“For us in Africa, adherence to governance, due process and transparency is crucial and non-negotiable,” Motsepe said.
“We are committed to continue working together with FIFA, its Member Associations, other Football Confederations and stakeholders to safeguard and adhere to governance, due process, and transparency global best practices,” he said.
CAF also reconfirmed its support for Infantino and thanked him for his support for African football over the years.
The African football body also praised the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying Infantino, Grafström and the FIFA administration had organised “a very successful FIFA World Cup 2026.”
CAF said the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco had also been a major success, with the quality of football “very high.”
The body said it would continue focusing on developing players, coaches, national teams and leagues across its 54 member associations.
