Tobi Amusan moved one step closer to making Commonwealth Games history after cruising into the women's 100-meter hurdles final in Glasgow.
The Nigerian world record holder looked comfortable from the gun, controlling her race before easing across the finish line to qualify for the final without showing her full speed.
She dropped the fastest time ever run at the Commonwealth Games in the women's 100mH, storming to victory in her heat in 12.19s (+3.8), and putting her in pole position for a third straight hurdles gold.
She will now attempt to become the first Nigerian athlete to win three consecutive Commonwealth titles in the event.
Amusan has dominated the Commonwealth Games over the past eight years.
She won her first gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2018 Games on Australia's Gold Coast, announcing herself as one of the world's best hurdlers.
Four years later in Birmingham, she successfully defended her title in a Games record time of 12.30 seconds, just weeks after breaking the world record with an astonishing 12.12 seconds and becoming Nigeria's first-ever world champion in athletics.
Now 29, Amusan arrived in Glasgow as the overwhelming favorite after another strong season that included victories on the Diamond League circuit.
She is aiming to add another Commonwealth crown to an already glittering collection that includes world, African, Diamond League and Commonwealth titles.
Victory in the final would cement her status as one of the greatest athletes in Commonwealth Games history and further strengthen her legacy as Nigeria's most successful female track athlete.
Nigerians will now be hoping the "Tobi Express" can produce one more flawless run to complete a historic hat trick and deliver another gold medal for Team Nigeria.
