Nigeria’s Super Falcons will return to action next month with two friendly matches against Senegal as preparations begin for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The friendlies, scheduled for 5th and 8th of June at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, will be the team’s first matches in several months.
The games are expected to help coach Justin Madugu assess his squad ahead of the continental tournament in July, where Nigeria will try to defend its African title.
The Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s team, with 10 WAFCON titles.
“Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, will take on Senegal Women’s National Team in a double-header international friendly,” a statement announcing the fixtures said.
The matches will also renew a growing rivalry between Nigeria and Senegal.
Senegal reached the semifinals of the last WAFCON tournament and pushed defending champions South Africa hard before losing on penalties.
The Super Falcons have not played since a double header friendly involving Cameroon earlier this year.
Their last match before that friendly was the title-winning match for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, a triumph that strengthened hopes of another strong outing next year.
Coach Madugu claims that the team and the Federation had tried to set up friendlies since then, but were all rebuffed.
Fans are expected to pay close attention to experienced stars like Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade, as well as younger players hoping to impress before the final WAFCON squad is named.
Falcons officials say the June friendlies are an important step in rebuilding match sharpness and team chemistry after a long break from international football.
