Chelsea began life under Xabi Alonso with a 3-2 victory over Fulham in a pulsating London derby at Craven Cottage, closing out matchday one of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

The Blues made a dream start, taking the lead inside the opening minute through Joao Pedro, who capitalised on a quick attacking move to stun the home side early.

‎‎Fulham responded positively and were rewarded when Josh King found the equaliser, bringing the hosts back into the contest in an entertaining first half.

‎‎Chelsea regained control before the break as Morgan Rogers restored their advantage, ensuring Alonso’s side went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

‎‎The visitors extended their lead early in the second half, with Cole Palmer finishing clinically to make it 3-1 and put Chelsea in a commanding position.

‎‎Fulham, however, refused to back down, and Gonzalo García pulled one back to set up a tense finish in front of the home fans.

‎‎Despite late pressure from Fulham, Chelsea held firm to secure all three points and hand Alonso a winning start to his Premier League managerial career.

‎‎While Chelsea will take positives from their attacking display, defensive lapses remain a concern heading into the next round of fixtures.

Fulham, on the other hand, showed resilience but were left to rue missed opportunities.

‎‎The result gives Chelsea early momentum in the new campaign, while Alonso's countryman Alvaro Arbeloa and his Fulham side will look to regroup after a spirited but ultimately unsuccessful performance.
