2027 Elections: Court Adjourns Donald Duke Eligibility Suit to June 29

A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned a suit challenging the eligibility of former Cross River State governor Donald Duke as the Peoples Redemption Party's presidential candidate to June 29.

The adjournment was granted after lawyers for Duke and the Independent National Electoral Commission were both absent from court.

Duke himself is also yet to be formally served with the court processes.

The plaintiff, a rival PRP aspirant, is arguing that Duke was not a registered member of the party as of the statutory deadline for submission of membership registers to INEC, which would disqualify him from contesting the party's primary and, by extension, the 2027 presidential election.

Duke, who governed Cross River State between 1999 and 2007, emerged as PRP's presidential flagbearer earlier this year.

The case is one of several eligibility disputes now making their way through the courts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
